The IAAF World Championships will be coming to Oregon Friday, August 6 through Sunday, August 15, 2021!

History was made when the International Association of Athletics Federations – the world’s governing body for the sport of track and field – awarded the 2021 World Championships to the state of Oregon, the first time the event will be held in the United States.

The IAAF Council’s approval of the official championships name as IAAF World Championships Oregon21 is significant because it is the first time the event name has referenced a region larger than a city. This new approach reflects our ongoing commitment to engage broadly, not just in one community but in communities across the state and the country.

The Local Organizing Committee will partner with USA Track & Field, the national governing body for the sport in this country, and communities around the state to welcome the world in 2021. The IAAF World Championships, held every two years, will be the largest sporting event in the world in 2021, with nearly 2,000 participants representing as many as 214 different countries.

This will be the third IAAF championship event to be held in Oregon in the span of seven years. The highly acclaimed IAAF World Junior Championships made its U.S. debut in TrackTown USA in the summer of 2014 and the IAAF World Indoor Championships was hosted in Portland in March of 2016.
